People get ready
Until a few years ago, my daily routine was to rise from my bed, give thanks to God for His mercy toward me throughout the night, complete my morning prayers and perform my ablutions. Immediately thereafter I would go to the kitchen pour a hot cup of coffee, and begin my review of the news both here at home and around the world. I continue with this regime save for one very distinct aspect of it. Can you guess what that aspect is?
Yes, the obvious is my review of the news. My turn from the news began in deep disgust with the direction of our country and of the world in general. I am fed up with the constant wars this country has been fighting throughout my lifetime. It seems to me that we have been in an armed conflict or full fledge war my entire life. I find that the thing that most disgust me is we consistently foment war around the globe so that those that have can get more, while weaker people fade. It is always the poor and down trodden, the marginalized people of the societies that give their bodies and their lives so that the wealthy can prosper; but there is so much more to my disgust. I worry about my people as they suffer the “Inner City Blues,” poverty, crime, drugs and murder. Mass killing at suburban schools and work places, our environment rages out of control in the forms of wild fires, oceanic storms and record high temperatures that contrast record low temperatures in winter. Our “Fat Cat” government is out of control and now in the hands of a President whom I believe to be the epitome of “Spiritual Wickedness in High Places.”
There is so much more to be concerned about, and I believe that those of you reading this blog have many of the same concerns. I have neither the time nor energy to list all of the issues that are moving our society and this world steadily toward the brink of destruction. My consolation in all of this is my faith in God and His word. I believe that the “End Times” are near but my application for my salvation has been approved and my reservation for glory has been secured. Are yours? There is an old spiritual song that was made famous by the great Curtis Mayfield of Chicago Illinois, “People Get Ready.” The song tell us to prepare ourselves because there’s a train coming, you don’t need a ticket all you need is faith. But, there is no room for the hopeless sinners that would hurt all mankind just to save his own, have pity on those whose chances are slimmer because there is no hiding place around the King’s throne.
In Mathew chapter 16, Our Lord arriving at the coast of Magdala was once again confronted by the Pharisees and Sadducees asking Him to show them a sign. Our Lord replied:
“When it is evening, ye say, it will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, it will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?”
My question to you is “can you discern the times we are living in?” Likewise in Luke 17: 26-29
And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
With these scriptures we are being instructed to be ready, ready for His return and the gathering of the Saints of God. How do we get ready? I believe you know, but just in case there is someone reading this that doesn’t, I admonish you to turn away from this world, and turn to God through our Lord Jesus who is the Christ, the Holy one of God, the Messiah, the Savior of the world.
If you want to have life everlasting in the presence of God, if you want to reserve your place with the Lord in Heaven then you must confess that Jesus is Lord. Romans 10: 9-10
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
By this confession you establish your faith and negate the need for a ticket to board the train to heaven, there is no other way. Will you prepare yourselves; will you confess your sins and pray for forgiveness? Will you Confess Christ Jesus as your Savior and break the yoke of bondage to your life of sin? Only by following this prescription will you hear the whistle and the diesel’s humming, and know that your train is approaching the platform… People, get ready…
