The definition of redemption incorporates the thought of both ransom and restoration. Sin separated us from God. No human effort could restore or renew this separation. This broken fellowship has left us with the dilemma of lost-ness without a way home. As a result the enemy has attacked us with doubt, fear, depression and low self-esteem. I want to encourage someone who may feel a little down on themselves because they do not feel as if they have measured up to what they think they should have at this point in life. God has never given up on you. Our sin is of great offense against God. We put the distance between us and God. However, the more we ran from God; the more He pursued us with His great love. God revved up His engines, downshifted and intensified His love in order to redeem the broken relationship. It has and is God’s will for us to be eternally yoked with Him.
God established the sacrificial system in Israel to restore broken fellowship. The sacrificial system was also established in order to measure the intent of the heart. How much do we value or what is the worth of the one we sacrifice to? Finally it was established to develop a committed heart towards God, a life dedicated unto Him. God is a jealous God and will not share His affection with another. Our purpose in participation in the sacrificial system was that we would be a willing and committed participant in our restoration, recognizing our offense against God and returning to Him with a repentant heart.
When we give a sacrifice or offering it must be our best. Everything we bring to God is not acceptable; just look at the Cain and Able saga. What you give speaks more about a person than how much they give. An offering with the wrong motive is unacceptable to God. God desires a repentant and sincere heart; a heart that recognizes that his sin has been an offense to God.
Time in service, as it did with Cain changed his heart towards God. It is my prayer for all of us that we would not allow time to change our hearts towards God. I know that we have had dreams that did not come to pass. We have been disappointed with somethings in life; but God is still on the throne. He still saves; rescues and delivers. Our redemption is according to plan. It may not be pretty but it is absolutely necessary!
